Psychodiagnostic Assessment
Psychodiagnostic assessments involve examining an individual's emotional, cognitive, behavioural and physical symptoms in order to identify and diagnose a mental health disorder, when warranted. I provide psychodiagnostic assessments as a stand-alone service and also as part of psychological treatment services, since this is an important first step in developing an evidence-based treatment plan. In Ontario, the diagnosis of mental health disorders is a controlled act. Psychologists and Psychological Associates are the only non-physician professionals who are authorized to engage in this clinical activity.
When undergoing a psychodiagnostic assessment, I will conduct a clinical interview and may also ask you to complete self-report questionnaires. At times, and with your explicit consent, other individuals may be involved in the assessment process (e.g., a significant other or caregiver). A typical assessment will take between one to two hours to complete and may be split into more than one session, if necessary. Upon completion of the assessment, I will provide you with feedback regarding diagnostic impressions and treatment recommendations. You will have the opportunity to ask questions. If you would like to pursue psychological treatment, we will collaboratively develop a plan to address your needs and therapy goals.
Psycho-educational Assessment
Psycho-educational assessments involve examining an individual's cognitive, academic, and socio-emotional functioning in order to best understand their learning profile and to determine whether any academic accommodations are warranted. Assessments involve an initial consultation (including a clinical interview); a historical review of educational functioning; psychometric testing; scoring and interpretation of test results; documentation of findings in a report; and a feedback session.
Currently, I complete psycho-educational assessments only for post-secondary students through the Mobile Assessment Team, with referrals from your academic institution.
