Individual Psychotherapy
I provide evidence-based psychological treatment to adolescents and adults. I specialize in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT). When indicated, I incorporate acceptance and mindfulness-based approaches into treatment. I work collaboratively with clients in developing individualized plans to address their needs and therapy goals. I strive to create a supportive and non-judgmental environment to facilitate therapeutic change.
CBT is demonstrated to be highly effective in the treatment of many disorders, including, but not limited to, anxiety, depression, insomnia, trauma, eating disorders, and obsessive compulsive disorder. CBT is a structured and time-limited treatment approach that focuses on the interconnections among emotions, thoughts and behaviours. Clients are guided toward exploring and modifying thinking patterns and/or behaviours that maintain negative emotions.
DBT is a variant of cognitive behavioural therapy that is effective for a range clinical issues, including, but not limited to, Borderline Personality Disorder, substance use, and eating disorders. It is a skills-based approach with the overarching goal of helping individuals create a life that is worth living. The skills teach individuals to stay in the present moment, better tolerate emotional distress, replace harmful behaviours (e.g., self-harm) with more effective ones, better understand and manage their emotions, and improve their relationships and communication with others.
